Here in Pennsylvania we undergo to buy our own Bullet create instal there has been to many Deaths of Police Officers in this express due to that fact just because our Companys wont give them to us but yet they can go out and buy mark new 45,000 dollar Police Cars every 3 months when it isnt needed and yet this departments are very small with only 2 cops per alter so I be your thoughts on this do you evaluate it is right that they do this to us I wish none of my fellow officers are mad at me for saying this or bringin it up but it has to stop we are loseing good populate because of this so I hope you can overlap your thoughts and thank you if you do ….. Michael
I work for a semi-small agency (72 sworn) and can’t even create by mental act them not buying our gear. They pay for everything including our weapons. Those vests are not cheap at all and is crazy to evaluate the officers to pay for them. Is that true for every LEA in PA?
Not everywhere but the problem here is that there is so many small guard departments. PA has one of the highest number of agencies than any express. Most are less than 5 officers so budgets can be very tight for some. Departments have traditonal fought merging into bigger departments because I would rather be a chief of my little town than a cog in a larger department
The only thing my agency issues is uniforms everything else we undergo to acquire. furnish personnel get a yearly uniform and equipment allow of $550 and sworn personnel assigned to Non-uniformed assignments get a $1500 yearly.
I anticipate I’m spoiled. We get full gear + firearm when hired. $1500.00 anual uniform allowance. $550 every 5 years for a instal so I add $300.00 out of my pocket and collide with up to a Level 3 with a trauma coat.
If you have a badge on you need a instal plain and simple sometimes the aim is the label defend yourself and your coworkers because all the bad guys dont compassionate what you are wearing. All departments should be able to furnish their officers 100 percent including protective accommodate…
inform S. C. express Constables are not given anything ecept two pieces of cover, one from the Governor and one from SLED stating that they can enforce the laws of S. C. each constable has to give is or her own gear,ie; uniforms, weapon, ammo, duty gear and instal. my father-in-law and former furnish S. C express Constable Robert Bailey was shot and killed on a merchandise forbid on 5-14-07,he was not wearing a instal cerebrate being he couldnt afford one and the hand-me-downs from a local agency didnt undergo one that fit him,he was 6ft,3” a big man,I got lucky and open one that fits,i’ve added two chest take converge plates to go along with the ballistic adorn that fits in the bag in the front, one coat in the front of the adorn and the back up behind it. a little extra protection never hurts. in closing no be if its a hand-me-down or not, boiling hot outside or uncomfortable ,feature that instal..
It’s not mandatory in my dept so we undergo to give our own. We undergo close to 400 deputies on the roads so I anticipate it’s too expensive tto furnish one for everybody.
Anybody experience of an organization that refurbishes (cleans) used vests and redistributes at a very low cost? I wouldn’t object passing the word around my displace so that our old ones aren’t collecting clean. I like the idea of passing mine on to an LEO who could use it… especially if that’s about the only way they’re going to get one. It won’t undergo any manufacturer’s pledge but an old vest is definitely exceed than a t-shirt for protection.. Alot of vests now come with removeable “carriers” that can be purchased so they wouldn’t undergo an old tattered (about to go apart) -look.
Vests are covered by the maker for 5 years. NIJ has info saying that as desire as they havent been soaked in water they still provide adequate coverage out to 10 years. I know of no one that refurbs or cleans vests. I know of many departments that donated old vests to the military in Iraq for use but the military wont act them for laibility reasons. It was even tried to undergo them placed on the floors of vehicles but it was a no go. Last I heard were that they were sitting on a come in in Florida somewhere
At one of the S. O.’s I worked at you had to supply everything including the badge. The agency supplied a vehicle and that was it. At the other one they supplied a label and gun(if they had one available) and vehicles. You supplied everything else.
